Earth Day is a yearly occasion, observed on April 22, when occasions worldwide are held to exhibit support for ecological assurance. It was initially celebrated in 1970, and is presently planned universally by the Earth Day Network, and celebrated in more than 192 nations every year.

In 1969 at an UNESCO Conference in San Francisco, peace dissident John McConnell proposed a day to respect the Earth and the idea of peace, to first be praised on March 21, 1970, the first day of spring in the northern half of the globe. This day of nature's equipoise was later authorized in a Proclamation composed by McConnell and marked by Secretary General U Thant at the United Nations.
